Bernina Express
a spectacular crossing of the Alps
Pioneering work with a unique character, this is how the World Heritage Committee described the "Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscape" in 2008.
A special treat is the panoramic journey on the Bernina Express - past glaciers and down to the palm trees. You start in Chur and the journey continues via Tiefencastel, the Landwasser Viaduct and the Albula Pass into the Engadine. There you will pass Pontresina, one of the great places for summer and winter tourism in the Swiss Alps. Afterwards you will pass glaciers and cross the Bernina Pass to the south to Poschiavo, or even to Tirano in Italy.
The train masters 55 tunnels, 196 bridges and gradients of up to 70 per mille with ease. The line from Thusis to Tirano is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
